The Blackcats scored an IHSA record 14 runs in the 5th inning to defeat Somonauk 17-7 and claim their first IHSA State Championship in school history! The Blackcats defeated Pope County and Shawnee to win the Regional Championship, then defeated Trico and Cobden to take the Sectional Championship. The Blackcats then defeated North Clay in the Supersectional to earn their 3rd trip to state in school history. The Blackcats defeated Okawville in the semifinals to advance to the State Championship game. The Blackcats were runner-up in 2010 and took 3rd Place in State in 2011.

Congratulations to our Goreville Junior High Track team as they received a medal in every single event they participated in at the SIJHSAA State Track Meet including Cole Rushing's State Championship in the 7th Grade 100 yard dash and the Lady Blackcats won 4th Place in State overall! Goreville CUSD 1 has been recognized as a Top 50 in the Nation "Future Ready School" with our work and progress toward our Technology Implementation Plan! Goreville Schools implemented our "1:1 Technology Initiative" Phase 1 that included Chromebooks for all high school students and enhanced broadband access in 2015 and will complete Phases 2 and 3 for the 2016-2017 school year that will provide IPads for K-4 students and Chromebooks for students in grades 5-8! We are PROUD of our school!

Goreville CUSD 1 participated in "Read Across America Day", a national campaign held each year on Dr. Seuss' birthday to promote reading! Pre-K through 5th grade students dressed as their favorite Seuss characters, read Dr. Seuss books, ate green eggs and ham, and played Seuss-themed games in the gym.
