The Goreville High School FFA was honored in Indianapolis, IN at the 2016 National FFA Convention for being one of the top 10 clubs in America! The Goreville High School FFA has consistently been a nationally recognized club as this is their 5th time to reach the top 10. Congratulations to the members, the sponsor Mr. Robison, and all of the volunteers that help with the program. We are PROUD of you!
Congratulations to Blackcats Braden Webb and Brant Glidewell as they broke the scoring and rebounding tournament records respectively this past week in the Goreville Invitational Tournament! Webb scored 135 points breaking the previous record of 114 and averaging 27 points per game including two 30 plus point games while Glidewell pulled down a record 19 rebounds in a game and 63 for the tournament (39 was the previous record) and averaged a double-double - points and rebounds!

The Blackcats scored an IHSA record 14 runs in the 5th inning to defeat Somonauk 17-7 and claim their first IHSA State Championship in school history! The Blackcats defeated Pope County and Shawnee to win the Regional Championship, then defeated Trico and Cobden to take the Sectional Championship. The Blackcats then defeated North Clay in the Supersectional to earn their 3rd trip to state in school history. The Blackcats defeated Okawville in the semifinals to advance to the State Championship game. The Blackcats were runner-up in 2010 and took 3rd Place in State in 2011.
Goreville CUSD #1 Superintendent Dr. Steve Webb has been selected as the 2015 Superintendent of Distinction for the Illinois Association of School Administrators Shawnee Region consisting of southernmost Illinois’ 11 counties. Dr. Webb is currently serving his 16th year as a School Superintendent and is a member of the Governing Board of the American Association of School Administrators and is the former President of the Illinois Association of School Administrators and the Association of Illinois Rural and Small Schools (AIRSS).
Goreville CUSD 1 has been recognized as a Top 50 in the Nation "Future Ready School" with our work and progress toward our Technology Implementation Plan! Goreville Schools implemented our "1:1 Technology Initiative" Phase 1 that included Chromebooks for all high school students and enhanced broadband access in 2015 and will complete Phases 2 and 3 for the 2016-2017 school year that will provide IPads for K-4 students and Chromebooks for students in grades 5-8! We are PROUD of our school!
For the 3rd year in a row, the Goreville High School Marching Blackcats won 1st Place in their high school class and Grand Champion overall
In 2014, Goreville Schools was designated as a SMART Technology Showcase School for their integration of SMART technology throughout the district. In 2015, they will take that a step forward with the launching of their 1:1 Technology Initiative
Congratulations to Goreville Lady Blackcats Basketball Coach Mike Helton for being inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall-of-Fame! Coach Helton has been at Goreville for 21 years where he has a 406-189 career record.
Goreville Elementary School and Goreville High School have been notified by SMART Technologies based out of Calgary, Canada, that they have been chosen as a "2012 Showcase School"!
