Thanks for visiting my page!
I've been the Media Specialist at Goreville CUSD#1 since 2007. Prior to that, I was the Media Specialist at Giant City School in Carbondale. I love my job, as it allows me to share my passion for books and reading with students of all ages. In recent years, I've been given the privilege of teaching Jr. High computer classes and have been loving that as well.
Jr. High Computer Classes

The 6th Grade Computer class is a full-year course which focuses on digital citizenship, chromebook basics, and keyboarding. With daily or weekly quizzes in Kahoot, students are frequently reminded of the content and lessons taught. The web-based software, Typing Agent, provides instruction and repetitious practice in keyboarding while end-of-the-unit timed tests and blank keyboard quizzes offer students opportunities to display and prove the skills learned.

7th Grade has one semester of Coding. During this time, the students get a refresher on digital citizenship and keyboarding, then begin coding practice on sites such as code.org and Google CS. Finally, students begin working with robots such as Dash, Ozobot, and Lego Mindstorm.

8th grade students have Computer Research class for a full year. They review digital citizenship, keyboarding, and then begin researching their family tree. Provided through a grant, students are able to research ancestry.com to find their ancestors, trace their roots, and create a family tree binder to last for generations.
