      2014 STATE CHAMPIONS!    

    The Goreville Jr. Blackcats defeated Cairo in the IJHSAA State Finals to win the school's first basketball State Championship!  The Jr. Cats end the season with a school record in wins at 25-1!  To view the article in the Daily Republican, click here.

    2011 JR. BLACKCATS REGIONAL CHAMPS!!!   

    For a record seventh year in a row , the Jr. Blackcats Basketball Team are Regional Champions!  They defeated Unity Point to win the 2011 Illinois Junior High School Athletic Association Regional Tournament, but were defeated by Norris City at the IJHSAA State Tournament held at Rend Lake College.

     

    Congratulations Jr. Blackcats on a GREAT SEASON!!!

    2012 JR. BLACKCATS TAKE 3RD IN STATE!  

    The Jr. Blackcats Boys Basketball Team bounced back from their IJHSAA State Tournament semi-final loss to eventual state champion Aviston to soundly defeat Wayne City 60-24 to win 3rd Place at State!  The Jr. Cats were met be the Goreville Police Department and escorted back to town where they were honored for their accomplishment with a parade and then introduced at half-time of the high school boys game against Sesser-Valier.  The Jr. Cats. ranked #1 in their Regional, defeated Ziegler-Royalton and Cobden to win the IJHSAA Regional Championship then defeated Christopher in the opening round of the IJHSAA State Tournament held at Rend Lake College in Ina, IL.  The Jr. Cats end the season at 24-4.

    COACH RAY INDUCTED INTO HALL OF FAME! 

    On Saturday, April 24, 2010 Former Goreville Coach Ned Ray was officially inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame!  In Coach Ray's 31 years as a Junior High Basketball Coach, of which 29 of those years were at Goreville, amassed a record of 479 wins and 280 losses.  His teams won 15 SIJHSAA Regional Championships and placed in the IJHSAA State Tournament 7 times with 3 second place and 4 fourth place finishes.  His teams also won 5 conference championships and 5 conference tournaments.

      WEBB HITS 1000!    

    Goreville Jr. Blackcat Braden Webb made school history scoring over 1,000 points in his junior high school varsity career (3 years)!  He ended with 1,290 points and led the Jr. Blackcats to their first ever State Championship!

    2013 JR. BLACKCATS REGIONAL CHAMPIONS!

     

    The Goreville Jr. Blackcats defeated Jonesboro and Cobden to win their 9TH STRAIGHT IJHSAA Regional Tournament!  The Jr. Cats fell to Gallatin County in the first round of the Illinois Junior High School Athletic Association State Tournament at Rend Lake College to end their season at 26-2.

  • 7 JUNIOR BLACKCATS 2013 ALL-CONFERENCE - 3 ARE "MVP"! 

    The Southern Illini Conference has released its 2013 All-Conference Basketball Teams and the Goreville Jr. Cats placed seven including the "MVP" of both teams!  For the Jr. Lady Cats, 8th graders Ashlyn Darnell and Cassandra Jones were named 1st Team All-Conference and Brenni Tripp and Nona Luke were named 2nd Team All-Conference.  Ashlyn and Cassandra were Co-"MVP" of the league!  For the Jr. Cats, 7th graders Braden Webb and Tanner Dunn were named 1st Team All-Conference and 8th grader Austin Sullivan was named 2nd Team All-Conference with Webb as "MVP" of the league!

    Congratulations!!!  We are PROUD of you!!!

    The Goreville Jr. Blackcats defeated Egyptian, Jonesboro, and Anna to be crowned the Southern Illini Conference Champions!

  •   2012 JR. BLACKCATS AND JR. LADY CATS WIN AT SUMMERSVILLE SHOOTOUT!  

    In a clash of unbeaten teams, the Jr. Blackcats defeated St. Rose of Clinton County and the Jr. Lady Blackcats defeated Woodlawn to win each of their designated shootout games and to remain as two of the only undefeated basketball teams in Southern Illinois!  Braden Webb was named MVP of the boys' shootout while Cassandra Jones was named MVP of the girls' shootout.

    The Goreville Jr. Blackcats defeated Eldorado and Christopher to win the Vienna Invitational Tournament!

    22013-14 JR. BLACKCATS EGYPTIAN TOURNAMENT CHAMPS!    

    The Goreville Jr. Blackcats defeated Nell Holcomb, Meridian, and Cairo to win the Egyptian Invitational Tournament Championship!  The Jr. Blackcat Cheerleading Squad also won "Best Cheerleaders" in the tournament!  Jr. Blackcats Braden Webb, Tanner Dunn, and Austin Sullivan were named 1st Team All-Tournament.
