Hi! Welcome to the Goreville Schools Media Center page. I hope you browse around and find some useful links. If you think of some sites that should be included on the page, e-mail me, Allison Robison, so that I can add them. Also, if you have any suggestions for books that you'd like to see in the library, let me know as well. I'm always looking for good books that YOU want to read
DID YOU KNOW?!
The Media Center has "hot spots" that can be borrowed. These are for families that do not have high speed internet access and have students with the need for internet access. The hot spots can be borrowed for up to 2 weeks.
Even though the Media Center lost all library book data, there is good news! The new circulation and database software is now web-based. Students, teachers, and parents can now browse our database to see what books are in, what books we have, and what AR books we have. Just follow this hyperlink to see the books available.
Rewarded For Reading!
Despite the pandemic, masks, social distancing, and not having access to the library, 7th grader Claire Ellis read all 20 books on the 2021 Blackcat Award Nominee List. She is the first student to complete the list and earn prizes from the Media Center. Congratulations on this great accomplishment, Claire!
Congratulations to 8th grader Mason Lipe! Despite the quarantine and e-learning, Mason finished the 2020 Blackcat Award Nominee List. This makes the 9th year that he has completed the challenge. Each year, the library presents a challenge to all K-8th grade students who want to try to read 20 books on a list. And each year, since kindergarten, Mason has accepted and conquered the challenge. This means that Mason has willingly read 180 books since he started kindergarten. These books are in addition to the other numerous books he has read for book reports and pleasure. No other student has accomplished this! Congratulations, Mason!
Pizza Party for Pawsome Readers
On Monday, May 13, 2019 a pizza party reading celebration was held for K-3rd grade students who read all 20 books on the 2019 Pawsome Award Reading List. Three students were treated to pizza in the library and received prizes of a personalized cup filled with candy, a bookmark, locker sticker, chapter book, and 2 tickets to a Miners baseball game. Congratulations and keep reading!
2019-20 Spelling Bee Grand Champion
Congratulations to the Goreville Elementary School Grand Champion, 6th grader Tyler Lingle! He will be taking a vocabulary test next to find out if he is advancing to the Tri-State Spelling Bee in Indiana in February. In order to be named Grand Champion, Tyler had to compete and win against other winners from the Bee including 5th grade-Braxton Hurt, 7th grade-Connor Craig, and 8th grade-Maddie Armstrong.
