BLACKCAT ANGLERS JUST MISSED!
The 2009-2010 Goreville High School Bass Fishing Club took second place at the Marion Invitational out of 40 total boats then missed qualifying for the IHSA State Tournament by 1/2 pound! At the Invitational, Jake Hackman and J.T. Russell placed second with 12.4 pounds, Mason Bishop scored tenth by himself by cating 9.8 pounds, Sean Seavers and Ty Taborn came in 19th place with 7.4 pounds, and Cody Smith and Clayton Craig finished in 22nd place with 5.6 pounds. At the Sectionals, team Hackman/Russell caught over 13 pounds to take fourth place. The top 3 teams qualify for state.

2011 BASS TEAM QUALIFIED FOR STATE!
For the first time in the 3 years since the IHSA started the sport, the Goreville High School Bass Fishing Team qualified at the IHSA Sectional Tournament and competed in the Illinois High School Association State Bass Fishing Tournament held at Carlyle Lake! The team of Jake Hackman, J.T. Russell, and alternate Sean Seavers hauled in 14.19 pounds of fish at the IHSA Sectional Tournament held at Lake of Egypt - enough to qualify them for the State Tournament. The team of Mason Bishop, Shon Messmer, and alternate Connor Seavers brought in 12.98 pounds which qualified them as an alternate for the State Tournament in case one of the other 3 teams could not compete. The team finished 23rd at State out of 52 teams!

2012 BASS FISHING TEAM SECTIONAL CHAMPS - TAKE 12TH AT STATE!
The Goreville High School Bass Fishing Team won the Illinois High School Association Bass Fishing Sectional Tournament held at the Lake of Egypt for the first time in school history! Not only did they take 1st Place, they also took 2nd place which allowed Goreville to send BOTH TEAMS to the IHSA State Tournament in Carlyle! At the State Tournament, Sam Hackman and J.T. Russell took 12th place out of 56 teams while the Sectional Champions Mason Bishop and Jeremy Hudson came in 46th. A special note of appreciation goes out to Coach Messmer and Steve Sanders for the use of their boats throughout the season and also to Mr. Sanders for volunteering his time to help coach our students.

BASS FISHING 9TH IN STATE!
The Goreville Blackcat Bass Fishing Team, for the 3rd consecutive year, qualified for the Illinois High School Association State Bass Fishing Tournament in Carlyle, IL! J.T. Russell and Shon Messmer hauled in 19.5 pounds of bass to take 2nd place overall in the IHSA Sectional Tournament. Shon Messmer also won the "Big Bass" award by catching a 6.12 pound bass during the competition. Mason Bishop and Connor Seavers hauled in over 13 pounds in their boat. The team thanks their volunteers Steve Sanders, Chad Morgenthaler, Randy Spurlock, Mont Bishop, Joel Trovillion, Bennie Adams, B.J. Barger, Randy Hudson, and the Johnson County Bass Club for all of their help this season. They then placed 9th out of 54 schools in the State Bass Fishing Tournament held at Carlyle Lake.
