CARLTON GOES TO STATE
On March 13, 2007 the sectional WYSE (worldwide youth in science and engineering) competition was held at SIU Lawson Hall. Corbin Carlton, from Goreville High School placed 1st in computer science out of 26 finalists from Mt. Vernon to Cairo. This entitles Corbin to advance to the state finals in Champaign Urbana on April 19, 2007, where he will be competing against other advancing high school students from all over the state. If he places at the state level, Corbin will receive statewide recognition and an opportunity to participate in the national competition.
The worldwide youth in science and engineering competition is sponsored by the University of Illinois and is held throughout the state each year. Students from virtually all Illinois high schools compete in regional, sectional, and statewide competitions. The competition consists of subject exams in Math, English, Chemistry, Computer Fundamentals, Engineering Graphics, Physics, and Biology.
Corbin is one of only 4 students to advance individually from Goreville in the past 10 years. We are very proud of Corbin here at Goreville High School and wish him all the best at his competition on April 19!!!!
